JIM STEVENS
Folk Singer

A native of El Paso, Texas, Jim Stevens started singing
music as a member of the El Paso Boys Choir.  The
choir performed a wide variety of music, from the
classics to the Broadway stage. This early exposure to
the musical world around him is basic to Jim's repertoire.

In high school, Jim picked up the guitar and started
playing the folk rock songs of the day by the musical
artists Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, Peter Paul and
Mary and the Kingston Trio.

While at the University of Texas at El Paso, Jim starred
in a highly acclaimed benefit production of Jesus Christ
Superstar.  Shortly after, along with several of that
troupe's members, Jim traveled with the showband
Springfire, performing at hotels and nightclubs
throughout the Midwest, and making two tours of
military bases in Great Britain, Germany, and the
Netherlands.

Since moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1982,
Jim has performed with the Chad Mitchell Trio and
opened concerts and festivals for Richie Havens, Maria
Muldaur and Ray Price. Club appearances include:
Ghirardelli Wine Cellar in San Francisco, The Loft in
San Jose and Cats Restaurant in Los Altos.  Outside the
Bay Area, Jim' has also appeared at The Red Lion, Vail,
Colorado, The Dock, in Davenport, Iowa, The
Railhead, Houston, Texas, and Inn of the Mountain
Gods, Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Today, Jim lives in San Carlos and performs at
numerous venues and events throughout the Bay Area,
including the San Mateo County Fair, Half Moon Bay
Pumpkin Festival, Saratoga Rotary Art Show, St.
Charles Church Fall Festival in San Carlos and libraries
from Santa Rosa to Gilroy.  1997 saw the release of Jim’
s first album, “Playing Favorites”, a collection of songs,
written by others and two by himself, that capture the
spirit of his music.

STEVE PETERSON'S 1978 RANCHERO
"THE GIANT PUMPKINMOBILE"
In Loving Memory of
Steven Robert Peterson
(Steve)
January 25, 1951 - November 8, 2007
Steve founded the Paso Robles Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off in 2006. After
attending various weigh-offs around the state, he decided to share his
love of giant pumpkins with the city of Paso Robles and surrounding
areas. Steve loved being apart of the giant pumpkin community. His
enthusiasm was contagious to the people around him and given half a
chance he would talk pumpkins to anyone who was willing to listen. We
will miss him dearly, but in a tradition made uniquely by Steve, his
pumpkin legacy will continue in our hearts forever.
